Novel Five-Level ANPC Bidirectional Converter for Power Quality Enhancement during G2V/V2G Operation of Cascaded EV Charger

This paper presents a novel single-phase (SP) active-neutral point clamped (ANPC) five-level bidirectional converter (FLBC) for enhancing the power quality (PQ) during grid-to-vehicle (G2V) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) operation of an electric vehicle (EV) charger connected in series. EV is based on dual-active half-bridge DC-DC (DAHBC) with high frequency isolation transformer. Unlike comparable ANPC topologies found literature, proposed one has two more switches, i.e., ten instead eight. However, addition these components, multilevel not only becomes capable properly balancing voltage DC-link split capacitors under various step-changing conditions but it achieves better efficiency, lower stress switching devices even distribution losses. The resulting grid-tied ANPC-SPFLBC DAHBC are accurately controlled cascaded control strategy shift (SPS) technique, respectively. simulation results obtained MATLAB-SimPowerSystems as well experimental laboratory validate set exhaustive tests both V2G G2V modes. A detailed analysis carried out Fluke 43B alike demonstrates good performance topology.
